Join us as we discuss Governor Andrew Cuomo’s comments from today’s briefing about what he believes should be restrictions on who can serve. He says government has never been more important, and he’s quite happy about it. What say you? Report civil rights violations to 1-855-925-2833
MIKE DONOVAN: The America that we are living in right now is not a free America.
Shame on us. If we allow the greatest democratic experiment in the history of the world to be crushed under the foot of a tyrant who calls himself a governor but would say to these people of these United States and the people of New York. You’re too stupid.
Good evening everyone. Welcome to another episode of the Not Free America radio podcast. I am your host, Mike Donovan. It is Tuesday, May 19th, 2020 and we are here navigating the post-COVID world, talking about civil rights violations as we do every evening. Let's start with the way we start every show, the phone number for you to call to report civil rights violations - That is 855-925-2833… I don't ask for anything from you on this show.
I'm never going to ask you for money. All I want you to do is stand up. I want to help you stand up. So I have a law firm that I fund and a group of lawyers that are going to help you stand up. If you have your rights violated and you're willing to stand up and speak out… Then there are people who are willing to help you.
We're all in this together but it only works if we all work together. This is an area that I have a resource. The country needs this, you need it. It's here for you. 855-925-2833. We've lived in a country long enough where we've let things go. We let things go… This reaction to the COVID--19 pandemic has shown us that we can't let it go anymore. I'm excited to talk to you today because I think I finally figured it out, folks. I think I finally figured out the divide. We've talked about it a lot.
I've estimated that I think this is really a divide between elitists and non-elitists -- people who have things and the people who don't. But I'm appreciative of Governor Cuomo in New York today because I think he did it. He did an incredible service of clarifying the difference in a way that I couldn't in my own voice. And so I'd like to play a few clips from today's briefing from Governor Cuomo. And I want you to listen particularly to what he's articulating. Understand, he thinks this is great. So why don't you take a listen: (CLIP)
“Government is important again, right? Government, most days you lead your life. Government… politics. It's a sideshow. It's not that important. When does government really become important? Probably almost not in my lifetime. You know, when has it been vital? At the time of war, crisis, real national crisis. But that's the only time it's really vital where you don't have a choice but to deal with and rely on government.”
You don't have a choice but to deal with and rely on government. You see Governor Cuomo is expressing wide-eyed wonder at the idea that we've now reached a place where everyone knows that you have to depend on the government… that you need the government… the government is there to save you if only you will allow it. But if you vest that kind of power in the government, then that government has unchecked authority to do anything it wants to you. And that's why it's so important. But again, don't believe me. Let's listen to a little bit more from the press briefing today:
“Well, government is now important again, in a way it hasn't been in my lifetime. It matters what government does. Government has made the difference between life and death here.”
…between life and death. The governor of New York says the difference between life and death is the government. You know, I think the difference between life and death are the frontline healthcare workers. I think the difference between life and death are the families that got their loved ones to the hospital when they needed to and let them go for fear that they may never see them again so they could get better. You know, there are a lot of people around the New York landscape who deserve thanks and credit for what New York has gone through.
And look, they have gone through a lot. We've lost a lot of lives. And whether you believe that this pandemic is as bad as they say or worse, or whether you think that those numbers aren't accurate, here's the fact. The virus is real. It's killing people. That's true.
It is true that other things go people too. But when you look at what New York did, the people who deserve credit for New York is not the government. The government came in and told you what you can't do. And quite frankly, the government of New York has done better than most states, but zero states in this country deserve an A or B or even a C. We failed the people of this country and saddled the people in this country with generations of debt. But he doesn't stop there. Let's go a little further governor:
“It has to be smarter than it was. It matters now what happens. You have to know what you're doing now… Not just look like you know what you're doing, not just sound like know what you're doing. You have to be smart. You're not going to Tweet your way through this. You have to be smart.”
You have to be smart. Does Governor Cuomo get to decide who's smart and who's not? Is there an IQ test that we're going to establish for people who want to lead themselves? Do you have to be a certain level of intelligence to be given liberty? Who is going to determine that? Who gets in? Who gets out? You see, it's the same people who have things. The people who have things don't want to lose them. There are a finite number of things. Freedom and liberty gives everybody a shot. That's the most amazing thing about America. But there are enemies of America that don't want everyone to have a shot. And many of those people don't want everyone to have a shot because they don't want to lose a number of things that they have. Knowing that there are a finite number of things. And knowing that competition isn't good for them because they can't compete.
They're afraid. And they're elite and they are determined to take and keep everything that they can from you because they know that they can't compete in an open marketplace… in an open marketplace in business and an open marketplace of ideas. It's just so much easier to grab control. Let's do one more clip from Governor Cuomo:
“You have to be competent at what you do. There's something called government and you either know how to do it or you don't know how to do it. You know, for many years we just, anyone can be in government, you know? I don't know. Can anyone be a nurse? Oh no. You have to know what you're talking about. Can anyone be a doctor? No. No. You have to know what you're talking about. Can anyone be a lawyer? No. No, no, no. You have to know what you're talking about. Can anyone be a plumber? Nope. You have to know what you're talking about. Can anyone run government? Oh yeah. Anybody can run government.”
You know, I just want you to think about what the man is saying, which is that stupid people shouldn't be able to run for political office. Stupid people… people he disagrees with. I've heard him say that he thinks people that he disagrees with don't get it. I've heard him to communicate that. I hear both sides communicate that all the time. So let me ask you a question: If you put 10 Democrats and 10 Republicans in a room, you might find many of them who think the other person doesn't know what they're talking about. Who's going to be left to be able to run? The people in power get to choose who the people in power are going to be. Don't you see it is the final great liberty grab? The coronavirus wasn't a conspiracy that was created to do it, but it was an opportunity that was taken.
Thomas Jefferson said, “the two enemies of the people are criminals and government.” So let us the second down with the chains of the constitution. So the second will not become the legalized version of the first. Someone like Governor Cuomo thinks he knows better and then the ends justify the means don't they? Because he knows better for you. He saved your life New York… he saved your life. Is he a God? A chosen one? Someone who is here to guide us, to tell us that we must rely on government, that we can't do it on our own, that we can't be trusted to make decisions that are better for ourselves.
Because there are only certain people who can do it. There are only certain people who know how. Another Jefferson quote is that “when the people fear the government, we have tyranny and when the government fears the people we have liberty.” Let me ask you a question -- How afraid of the people do you think Governor Cuomo is?
Listen, rewind this thing. Listen back to the words he stated and ask yourself just how concerned do you think Cuomo is about free people? He's not concerned at all. And you know why? Because he just exercised the biggest power grab in the history of this country and he got away with it. He didn't just get away with it. He's building a legacy on it and now he's telling us that we can't lead ourselves, that we can't govern ourselves -- that the idea of a citizen later legislature, born by Jefferson, endorsed by our founders, a key principle to the idea of America that people from all walks of life come together and govern each other together – a government of by and for the people. All of it.
None of it matters anymore because Governor Cuomo realized that only smart people like him should be able to run for office. Only smart people like him can do it. It's government. It's hard. Let me tell you something. The founders made it possible for government not to be hard. The way that government is easy is that government stays in its lane. It restricts itself to constitutional purposes. That's how government stays effective in the hands of the people who are leading themselves. And when government becomes so complex that it requires a college degree to do it, you are doing it wrong.
God help us… If the America of the future is an America defined by the kind of elitist, incredibly arrogant attitude permeating from Governor Cuomo today. Shame on us if we allow the greatest democratic experiment in the history of the world to be crushed under the foot of a tyrant who calls himself a governor, but would say to these people of these United States and the people of New York, you’re too stupid to do my job. Let me tell you something, Governor, any other person in the state of New York who understands representative democracy and believes that everybody should have a right to be involved in government is vastly more qualified than you.
Our founders identified, defined, the true danger of the American people for the future of our Republic, and that danger is people who have thoughts like yours. God forbid we give away the free liberty of this country. We will give away everything. I would rather die a free person than live in chains.
Join me, Notfreeamerica.com -- fill out the form. Sign up. Consider starting a local chapter. We need to get engaged. Why? We're going to fight the civil rights battle in the courtrooms. We're going to fight it in the ballot boxes so we don't have to fight it on the streets. It is time for a new America that is focused on the principles of our founders. Why new? Because the last 60 years, the courts and our legislators, our leaders have whittled away your civil liberties.
We have to get the Bill of Rights back and it has to mean what it says. And if there's not any other reason for you to believe what I'm saying every single day on this podcast, please listen to the words of Governor Cuomo and understand this fight is critical, it's existential and you're not going to have a chance to decide to fight later.
You stand up for your rights now or you won't have them. One last Jefferson quote for you before I leave tonight. Thomas Jefferson said, “if a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” How many laws right now are unjust? Think about what Jefferson said. If he sounds like a crazy radical lunatic to you, then the problem isn't Jefferson. The problem is you.
Liberty comes at a cost. That cost is responsibility, but responsibility is also the benefit of freedom and you can't have one without the other folks, Notfreeamerica.com -- join us. Let's stand together. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful evening. We'll talk tomorrow.
